weird experience

The supermarket in front of my dorm has opened every day from 9 to 22 which comes in especially handy when you're a lazy dude as me and have nothing to do all day long (at least for the next 2 days until courses start).

What stroke my attention in the first place was the fact that Sweden's supermarkets in general seem to be far better equiped then their Austrian pendants. Another thing which is different here is that whilst cueing up in front of the cash desk people do move their shoping baskets with their feet on the floor. I too already adopted this habit.

Today an old lady stood in front of me cueing up as well. In the process she literally touched and took out every good that was placed along the shelves. When she finally made it to the cash desk, she started to put every single thing she had in her trolley on the conveyor and turned it in the direction so that the barcode was facing towards the scanner. She probably thought this whole ceremony would speed up the process and help the girl doing in her job, but in fact she achieved the exact opposite. Normally I'm a rather patient guy but I have to admit that I wanted to have that fancy disintegrator from Star Trek this time :-)

P.S.: Don't miss out on my pics from Göteborg, we did a spontanous trip there 3 days ago and payed a visit to Liseberg, the 2nd biggest amusement park in whole Europe. First time for me riding a rollercoaster. Göteborg itself didn't appeal to me that much in terms of architecture, there's a lot of buildings which also could have been built in the heart of Russia back in communism.

Take it from a former cashier, it helps if you put the code facing the scanner. Atleast if you do it fast :) Actually alot of people do in Sweden. Me too, in Vienna they always look at me in a funny way when I do it but I won't let them get me down! :)
Take care / mimsch
